The vaccination process is vital for breeders. Not only the vaccine but also the period and condition of cattle have vital importance for herd health.

4 Main Factors of Preparing a Ration

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent diseases in cattle farming. Vaccination programs have great importance, especially in the prevention of contagious diseases throughout the herd. Yet, there is a point that should pay attention to during the vaccination process. Vaccines do not completely eradicate diseases. They are applied throughout the farm to ensure that diseases are less common in your herd. If any disease occurs, it provides easy overcoming of the disease. Considering the cost of treating the disease, prevention of diseases with vaccination is less costly. Therefore, it is recommended to vaccinate the whole herd in terms of both animal health and profitability.

Vaccinations starting from the calf period should continue in the heifer and adult periods. While the enterprises are preparing their vaccination programs, the required and/or optional vaccinations according to the region where the enterprise is located should be taken into consideration. Although some vaccines are not officially considered mandatory, they are indispensable for cattle farms. Therefore, while preparing vaccination programs, detailed research should be done and a proper and periodic vaccination program should be prepared to protect and maintain the health of the herd.

Another important issue when preparing vaccination programs is the period of the animal. For example, there are two important vaccination periods for cows. One of them is the dry off period (the last stage of pregnancy) and the other is lactation period. Vaccines made in these two different periods differ. For example, the septicemia vaccine should be administered during the dry period. This vaccine is given in the dry period because the immunity created by the vaccine given to the mother is transferred to the offspring. For the calf to have sufficient immunity after birth, it is very important to make certain vaccinations in the dry period.

For vaccines to provide adequate protection against diseases, some considerations must be taken into account. One of them is the protection of vaccines. The effectiveness of vaccines that are not stored in a suitable environment and at appropriate temperatures will decrease and therefore the expected protection effect from the vaccine will disappear. Another issue to be considered is the correct administration of the vaccine. Application sites of vaccines, asepsis during administration and application doses are vital. Particular attention should be paid to the vaccines that require two doses. When the second dose of the administered vaccine is missed, the desired immunity does not occur with the first dose.

You can create your vaccination program under the "Vaccination" heading in the Health Management Module of the MilkingCloud Herd Tracking Program. With this module, you can see which animals should be vaccinated and save these vaccines.

On the Vaccination screen, you can access information about to which cattle a vaccine can be applied, and list the animals that can be administered automatically in line with this information. You can also access information about the ear tags and current status (pregnant, fresh, lactating, etc.) of your animals listed for vaccination. Information such as when your pregnant animals became pregnant and when your cattle were inseminated are also available on this screen. In addition, the system automatically warns you when the second dose of vaccines that need to be administered in 2 doses comes. In this way, after applying and recording your vaccinations, you can apply without losing any time when the dose is repeated.
